Douglas Gordon and Richard Wright were commissioned to create artworks for the windows of Selfridges, London, as part of the department store’s recently launched “State of The Arts” project. The windows celebrate the power of public art, and reflect the artists’ involvement in creating site-specific artworks at London’s new Elizabeth Line stations for the Crossrail Art Programme.

Gordon has installed two artworks: “Soft Cell” 2018, a neon script text which says Non-Stop, the title of his new film for Tottenham Court Road Station; and “Scratch Hither,” 2002, a video work presented on nine stacked TV monitors. On two further windows, Wright has fly-posted silkscreen prints in a layered scheme, they are open to the elements and passers-by.

In the accompanying pop-up Art Store at the Selfridges Corner Shop, works by both Gordon and Wright, and other artists including Carsten Höller, Jeff Koons and Richard Prince, are for sale. Browse these works by following the link in our bio!
