6 years ago today, my friend, Paul Salopek, began his walk across the world in the footsteps of our first human migration. On the morning of Jan 10, 2013, we left Herto Buri, Ethiopia. 16 million footsteps later, he is now in India. I have had the honor to have photographed my friend’s walk across the world for @ナショナルジオグラフィック @OutOfEdenWalk, today sharing 10 images from where we began till today. In my deepest humility, with the warmest of kind touchings…onward in your continued gentle footsteps, my friend, into the mystical 7th year, till I see you next month, again in India.

7 - I met Paul again in Turkey, bedding down for the night with his mule in a field - Sept 18, 2014

8 - Paul a year later in the Mangystau region of eastern Kazakhstan. After 2 days of desert, exhausted, he took rest that night at a mosque - May 7, 2016

9 - We walked 5 days, 140 km, with Paul through the Kyzyl Kum Desert of Uzbekistan. On the 3rd day, Paul w/ his guide & friend, @aziz_khalmuradov - Sept 4, 2016

10 - Last year, Paul had reached India. This was Paul’s 1st visit to Varanasi and decided to take a boat to explore the Ganges rather than walking its shoreline - Nov 23, 2018
