Visitors to one of Beirut's best known and oldest beach establishments, the Sporting Club, enjoy the January sunshine and views towards the Raouché district of the city and the limestone cliffs of Pigeon Rock. Whereas Beirut was the scene of a terrible civil war that raged between 1975 and 1990, the city has become increasingly popular in recent years, slowly reclaiming its historic image as a Paris of the Middle East. Located on Lebanon’s Mediterranean Coast, Beirut is the country’s largest and main seaport. It is also one of the oldest cities in the world.
