When researching artisanal craft in developing countries my first stop is always at the local market. You get a proper sense of the culture, the food and the handmade products available. From there I then work backwards, I engage with the sellers and through a lot of lost in translation back and forth if I’m lucky I get to the source, the genius makers.
This is when the magic happens, learning, processing and coming up with sustainable ways to support, respect and collaborate. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In Indonesia the techniques and symbology behind their traditional craft completely captivates me. Here I am first hand discovering their headdresses before diving in further. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
