Everybody loves transformation, so here’s one for ya: This is something I have wanted to share, but wasn’t sure how. - - I had started Accutane after struggling since middle school with my skin on and off. I started medication for it in high school. After 6 years, 3 dermatologists & every medication, cream, lotion & potion known to man it felt like (and yes all the various diet changes), I was prescribed accutane. I did a ton of research about possible side effects, but I figured “I’m healthy, most people said it was fine, I’ll be fine”. The first 7-8 months of this year were by far the worst months of training I have EVER had in ANY sport. My body did not tolerate the medication. Blood work every month lead to lowering the dose over and over and extending the time I was on it because my body just couldn’t not for whatever reason handle it with elite training demands. I lost 4kg (to weigh 66kg) almost immediately & couldn’t gain it back. I bled (everywhere). My recovery was at about 25% of normal. My lifts were (LOOOOOL) shit. My joints hurt to move an empty bar. My kidney function was down. And as someone with clinical depression who has a good feel on how to handle the ups and downs, the emotional aspect was something I have never experienced before. - - I took my last dose in August. Today I am up 4.5kg & everything has been a steady climb back up. I wanted to share this because out of everything I read about this drug, there was nothing I could find from top athletes who train to extremes. I was in no way prepared for how rough it was. So if any of you are going through this or are considering taking accutane, I hope this helps you at least feel not crazy if the side effects come for ya hard. It was HORRIBLE, but it was worth it. And it starts getting better almost immediately. Being able to feel like you don’t have to hide your face (and/or body) regardless of how you get to that point is important. With me having to do meet and greets, photoshoots and be on stage (& I hate make up) it was important. And it was SO painful all the time before accutane. So good luck & thanks for readin from an 8 year in the making happy clear face.
