“As a gay person, most of my personally-driven work is about the LGBTQ community,” says Mexico-City-based photographer Jake Naughton (@jakenaughton), whose recent project with Aarti Singh (@samoinspired) “Both Sides of the Veil” explores what it’s like to be queer in modern India. “What I’ve found in working on this project is that there are so many stories that don’t even occur to people outside of the LGBTQ community that are worth telling and are fascinating. There’s so much to uncover and so many interesting angles to explore. And this story is no different,” he says. “The most important thing to a lot of the people was that they still felt loved and supported by the people in their community, whether that was their family, or their friends or their neighbors. And I think that was very powerful.”
