In fact, this might be the first time I've ever tried in earnest—I spend most of my time in cities, where you mostly get that fun orange haze from light pollution. But when I was reporting in Australia's Northern Territory and ended a long day of driving in Daly Waters, I pulled off the highway and realized I could actually see the Milky Way. After letting about 15 minutes pass to allow my eyes to adjust, this is roughly what I could see lying on the roof of my car.
