A hard frost glistens on the rocks. The air is cold but windless, and for now, the only light comes from a few stars, headlamps, and their glow on the freshly white ground. Conditions seem good, as long as sunrise warms the verglas from the rocks. We just can’t be too quick to reach the steeper sections of the ridge.
