The Buzzcocks changed everything for me. Pete Shelley taught me how to write songs. How to write LOVE songs. How to write punk songs. How to play music. How to handle getting bullied and falling in love. The Buzzcocks were there at every party, under my headphones, for making out breaking up and making up. I got the 45 of Are Everything Christmas ‘79 and was on repeat through summer of ‘80. I studied how to get a kick drum air tight with the bass on You Say You Don’t Love Me. Touring with the Buzzcocks in ‘96 was one of the greatest moments of my life. Thank you Pete for the melodies the heartache the passion the romance the god damn desperation and getting me through the uncomfortable awkwardness of teenage life. You will be missed. RIP.
