London to Hong Kong in two hours! Dating from before the dawn of cinema and measuring over fifty metres in length, this exceptionally rare panorama brings to life the epic journey over land and sea between Britain and the Far East. An amazing survival from the golden age of the moving panorama, it was painted circa 1860 by John Lamb, Primus, and his son John Lamb, Secundus, shipping agents in the city of London.

The Lambs intended the work to be viewed as a moving image – it would originally have been mounted onto wooden spools, operated by hand, between a miniature proscenium arch theatre, and accompanied by a humorous narrative. Taking in highlights such as Jerusalem, the pyramids, the Red Sea, and in Sri Lanka, banyan trees and a tiger hunt, as well as stormy seas, exotic flora and a band of robbers, the journey would have wowed Victorian audiences.
