And they’re off! Among other payloads, NASA missions Robotic Refueling Mission 3 (RRM3) and the Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI) headed into space this afternoon on the 16th @SpaceX Dragon resupply mission to the @国際宇宙ステーション.
By demonstrating the storage and transfer of cryogenic spacecraft fuel, RRM3 will pioneer new technologies that could take both humans and spacecraft further into space for longer periods of time, including to the Moon and Mars. GEDI will map the world’s temperate and tropical forests as it studies how carbon is absorbed and released into the atmosphere. The mission will be using lidar, or laser technology, to create a comprehensive, three-dimensional map.
