At @astierdevillatte, under bright, warm lights, over 16 artisans practice their ceramic craft—most are from Tibet, where they studied in Buddhist monasteries before taking up ceramics. They mold local clay into the most exquisite shapes using an old technique called estampage, before air-drying the pieces. Next, the dried product is fired in the kiln, followed by an application of Astier’s signature white glaze, and up to three more rounds of firing.
