There are many marvelous ways that plants and pollinators have evolved together. Blooming this week for the first time in the Nolen Greenhouses is a threatened plant from Mauritius, Nesocodon mauritianus, found only in a single wild location and being cultivated to preserve it. It uses high-contrast droplets of red nectar to attract a species of gecko (Phelsuma ornate) found on the same cliffs—and it’s not the only plant that evolved colorful nectar for gecko pollination! ? ? #nesocodonmauritianus
