Photo by @simonnorfolkstudio | November 11, 2018, marked a century since the end of the First World War. Over the past couple of years I've been working on a project studying its aftermath.

Guillemont Road Cemetery in the Somme, northern France, contains 2,263 First World War casualties who died in the vicinity of Guillemont. The number buried here greatly increased after the Armistice of November 11, 1918, when bodies were brought in from the battlefields immediately surrounding the village and other smaller cemeteries. Of all the burials, 1,523 are unidentified, but there are special memorials to eight casualties known or believed to be buried among them. The cemetery was designed by Sir Herbert Baker.
