I finally finished "Becoming" and let me just say, it is absolutely phenomenal. Emotional, inspiring and invigorating. This book came to my life at the exact time I needed it.
I have been fortunate enough to know and encounter the incomparable Mrs.Obama over the past decade, and I feel privileged and humbled that I was given an opportunity to dress her for many occasions.
I am also beyond grateful to have been able to bring my mom, my greatest source of inspiration, and my niece, with whom my future is hopeful, to the White House to meet our former FLOTUS.
My encounters with her have been warm, full of love, and yes, she does give the best hugs. It has been reassuring, validating, and inspiring to call her my First Lady, and supporter and my beacon of hope.
While I have a myriad of memories, there are a few that really stick out-- dancing with her on her 50th birthday, listening to her speak at the White House, inspiring so many students, or dancing to her last party...I will never, ever forget the love that was palpable and in the air in her presence.
At these parties, there was Stevie Wonder, there was Beyoncé, but nothing could compete with the love she and the President Obama shared with each other and with us. The room was colourful and I felt even for a brief moment, this boy from Nepal, that I belonged. Finally belonged in America.
Thank you Mrs.O for this book, your grace, compassion, integrity and fortitude.
