Let's celebrate St Catherine's day!
Elsa Schiaparelli explained what "La Sainte Catherine" means for Paris' Haute Couture in her 1954 "Shocking Life" autobiography:
"St Catherine is the patron of the "midinettes", and it is a consolation day of glamour for the girls who, just 25 years old, have not found a husband or not wanted a husband… A day of freedom, fun, and relaxation, the unmarried girls, the Catherinettes, wearing spectacular head-dresses."
