Lyda Conley was a Wyandot-American lawyer of Native American descent and was one of the first female Native attorneys. She's notable for her campaign to protect and preserve the Huron Cemetery in Kansas City, where she and her sisters set up camp with muskets to prevent it from being sold. In 1909, she was the first Native American woman to appear before the Supreme Court as a plaintiff-attorney to argue Native burial grounds are entitled to federal protection. Even though her case was dismissed, in 1916 the cemetery was designated a federal park. In 1990, the cemetery (where she was buried) was renamed Wyandot National Burial Ground and became a National Historic Landmark. #InspirationWednesday
