Incredibly saddened to hear that Roy Hargrove is no longer with us. I remember meeting him many years ago (1996 or 97...?) at the North Sea Jazz Festival. We were with the same label at the time, bumped into each other at the label offices and he actually knew who I was which surprised and flattered me. My hotel room was right above the jam session room, and after succumbing to jetlag and the inevitable music seeping through the floor, I went downstairs to peek in. As I was about to enter, out comes Roy laughing joyously. He had been freestyle rapping and having a great time. Since then we ran into each other at the Jak Jazz Festival in Indonesia, and just last year I took my son to see him play at the Jazz Gallery with @jaleelshaw also playing. Such a talented cat, great sound, wonderful spirit. You just heard and felt the love he had for music. We’ve lost a great voice. #rip
