無印良品は、フィンランドにて公共交通バスとして2020年の実用化を目指す全天候型の自動運転バス「Gacha（ガチャ）シャトルバス［仮称］」をデザインします。
自動運転などの先端技術は、都市部はもちろんのこと、より少子化や高齢化が進む地方での課題解決にこそ必要と考えてきましたが、Gachaシャトルバスは、全天候型という特長に加え、個人所有の車ではなく地域でシェアする公共交通機関としての実用化をターゲットにしている点において、無印良品の考え方と合致し、自動運転技術の研究開発を行う企業Sensible 4との共同プロジェクトを2017年よりスタートすることとなりました。
使う側の立場で徹底的に考えたデザインは、前後のないミニマルでフレンドリーなかたちと、照明とコミュニケーションスクリーンが一体となったLEDのライトベルト、内装に沿ったラウンド型のベンチシートがポイントです。

Announcement of design collaboration: Gacha - Autonomous Shuttle Bus for All Weather Conditions
The advanced technology of autonomous driving has potential in the countryside where decreasing birthrates and aging populations are causing problems in these communities. The Gacha autonomous shuttle bus is an all-weather concept that can be shared among the community. This paralleled MUJI's philosophy and thus the collaboration with Sensible 4 started in 2017.
The design is made in consideration of the users. The highlights of the design are its shape, which is friendly and designed with no front or back, the LED light belt, which is made from the combination of the headlights and communication screen, and the seating that follows the soft rounded square shape of the bus. Finland has a perfect environment for the autonomous vehicle testing, because it is legally not required to have a driver on the vehicle running on public roads.
