On our first full day in Wyoming, we visited one of my favorite black bear areas in search of them feeding on berries. As soon as entered the woods, this owl flew directly overhead and of course, we had to put the bear search on hold. I thought at first it was a great gray as I had seen many in this location, but it turned out to be a great horned. The great horned owls can be a little more skittish than the grays, but this one was very relaxed and didn’t move around too much. I liked this shot because if I hadn’t seen the owl flying, perches like this show just how brilliantly these animals blend into their surroundings. We may have never found it!
