The work of Mexican conceptual artist @mariogarciatorres has ranged from a fictional fax-correspondence with the late Alighiero Boetti, to a journey into the ruins of a Agustín Hernández-designed meditation centre, to a reunion between a political activist and a Cezanne painting she had briefly taken from a Caracas museum as an act of protest in the early 1960s. In ‘trying to build friendships with somebody who’s dead, or away,’ he has unearthed alternative histories of Western thought.
