Talk to your family members. Talk to your friends. Talk to your co-workers and neighbors. Take courage and bring this up. Start conversations and speak out. Posting a thirst trap selfie? Use something like this as the damn caption. If you’re not familiar with today’s news, please educate yourself on the implications such a decision will have. The Trump Administration plans to revoke civil rights protections for trans/GNC people, especially by defining sex/gender under Title IX as immutable at birth. In other words, trans/GNC people will not be recognized. At all. Students will be subjected to genetic testing to determine their sex at birth. This is not only hateful, wrong, and a violation of all notions of liberty, but it is political theater designed to further divide this country at great cost to a vulnerable group.  Sometimes it’s best to start conversations with questions. Should the government be allowed to define how we see and exist as ourselves? Should the government be able to force students to take a DNA test as part of their educational experience? Should taxpayers have to pay for this? And where could this gross governmental overreach into private matters lead? How could this pave the way for new forms of persecution? What are the ways you could be persecuted? Ask. Appeal to basic reasoning and logic. Talk about what role government should play in our personal lives, regardless of party affiliation. I don’t think this is an issue of “Left” or “Right”, Straight or Queer, Cis or Trans - this is the kind of government action none of us should tolerate, a slippery slope descending into something monstrous.
