OPEN NOW: @tatestives presents an exhibition of British artists Rosalind Nashashibi & Lucy Skaer, combining the artists' collaborative films with a selection of works from different places and times that generate new meanings with the duo's own practice.

Taking its title from a painting by the artist Paul Gauguin, the film Why Are You Angry? 2017 (extract above) explores the artists' depictions of Tahitian women. Nashashibi/Skaer retraced Gauguin’s travels to Tahiti, asking women they met to appear in the film. By imitating Gauguin’s gaze, but using film instead of paint, Nashashibi/Skaer call into question the artist's representations of women. Also featured are works by artists that show women powerfully representing themselves.
