I’ve collected train and mass transit tickets, as well as books of classic ticket designs, for years. As designed objects, they often have interesting layouts and ornamentation, and are well thought out as communication media. Along with their aesthetic value, they also have an interesting storytelling quality, showing how two places that were once isolated from each other have since become connected, allowing passengers to have their own connections to both places. I wanted to create art around those concepts, and also share a political message about their environmental consequences of air and car travel and the benefits of mass transit. - Shepard
