At Arusha Secondary School in Tanzania girls take a compulsory test twice a year. A pregnancy test. And failure is not an option. If it comes back positive, the student is expelled. The practice has become more prevalent since President John Pombe Magufuli took office in 2015. In a country where a quarter of girls aged between 15 and 19 are mothers or pregnant, the policy denies education to thousands. Calendars depicting a crying pregnant girl in a school uniform can be found in almost every classroom. In the scene, the girl is turned away from school, her parents, her community and the government. See more details on our Instagram Story. #dayofthegirl #asequals
