Toshogu enshrine Tokugawa Ieyasu (January 31, 1543 – June 1, 1616).
He was the founder and first shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate of Japan, which effectively ruled Japan from the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600 until the Meiji Restoration in 1868. There are 47 Toshogu shrines all over Japan. 【上野東照宮　東京】

1600年関ヶ原の戦いで、. 石田三成の西軍を破り事実上天下をとった.徳川家康。 その後、江戸幕府は260年以上も続くことになります。その徳川家康を祀っているのが東照宮。全国に47社あるとか。
