Living in a war zone is a long, slow death; a torture of the soul.

Yet, remarkably, life does go on. You will hear laughter stirred from dark humour, you witness weddings and birthdays, build close friendships, and feel what it is to be alive. And in this world that lies so close to death, it is often food that brings most joy. From Afghanistan to Colombia, Iraq to Angola, I have sat and shared meals with families in the most desperate of situations.
