I honestly don’t know where to begin this caption, but heads up, it’s going to be a sappy one. Since the age of 8, I was raised by a single immigrant mother. Times were tough financially as well as logistically. We had several people helping us in order to get me to fencing practices. My mom sacrificed a lot in order to keep me fencing. Not only that. My first coach refused to let me quit after my mom approached him and told him that she can no longer afford the fees. He told her that he believed in me too much and that she can start paying again when she makes ends meet. It doesn’t stop there. My current coach, @gelman.yury also helped make this amazing life come true. He say me at a free fencing class in Manhattan and asked to speak to my mom. After being told that we simply can’t afford him, (one of the best coaches in the world) he told her that he would give her a discount, because he saw something in me. Within 8 or so months we made our first national team together. Fast forward to Olympic year, where I couldn’t afford traveling to tournaments. I refereed tournaments, coached fencing and worked small modeling jobs in order to make ends meet for 3 years. But I had run myself dry. I swallowed my pride and set up a fundraiser. My incredible friends and strangers that have never met me, helped me raise $14,000 in order to help me train, travel and compete. Had it not been for all of those people, I wouldn’t be standing where I am today. And now, with everything that has happened lately, and actually this past week, is thanks to all of you. You follow along on my journey, like my ridiculous content, and leave me the kindest comments and messages. It’s all a team effort and I am blessed to have you in my corner. To my sponsors, thank you for believing in me and supporting me through it all. Also, a million thank yous to Samsung for inviting me to their annual Samsung Charity gala! So much money is being raised for disadvantaged children and it was an honor to be a part of it all. #samsunggives @kowatches
