I was 23 when I won my first World Championship. My family and I finally could call ourselves the champions of the world. For the only black family in the sport, we had many obstacles in our way but my dad was a man who could not be beat down, kicked to the curb, laughed at or talked down to. He kept his head down, working to create an opportunity that would change the course of history in the sport. We had nothing but gave everything and more. We never lost focus of our goal and never gave up. I will never forget that fight, I will never forget that struggle, the tough times we went through, I will never forget how he protected us even when everybody was laughing in our face. No matter what happens, I will always drive with this journey in mind, we win and we lose together.
