In honor of POW/MIA Recognition Day, we recognize three of many POWs from the U.S. military who exemplified bravery, sacrifice, and dedication.
Everett Alvarez Jr. was the first Naval aviator shot down over North Vietnam and was held as a POW for over 8 years, making him the longest held U.S. POW of the Vietnam War. During his imprisonment, Alvarez maintained a commitment to service despite the brutal conditions of the camp.
