This is Munveer Bhangoo’s baraat at the Ritz Carlton hotel in Dana Point, CA. He, his family and his friends arrive, singing and dancing to be welcomed by Avnish's family. Bhangoo, a Sikh American, grew up in Bakersfield, California, is a doctor, as is his father, one of his brothers, and the woman he is about to marry.
When people say “Indian wedding” it’s a very generalized concept. For this @ナショナルジオグラフィック South Asian American story, I photographed Gujarati, South Indian and Sikh weddings in the United States. There are so many cultures and religious traditions within India and therefore Indian weddings, even in America, are diverse and observed in different ways. At each wedding I had a unique and miraculous experience.
