With National Voter Registration Day only a few days away, ELLE is featuring women poised to make history this November, as a reminder of what’s possible in these midterm elections. .
Rashida Tlaib won her primary this August, securing her spot in the general election, where she’ll run unopposed and likely become one of the first Muslim women ever elected to Congress. Tlaib is a single mother, the oldest of 14 children, and the daughter of Palestinian immigrants. And she knows how important her campaign is.

She told ELLE.com, “Everything that's happening against Muslims in our country, it is all not going to be this complete darkness… there is light. And I think for me to win, the success of this campaign... it brought a light in a moment of darkness for many of us."
