Dear Man Ray,
It was with immense pleasure that we embarked on this surrealistic journey with you in creating this film. To express in a short minute your explosive creative encounter of the 1920s and introduce what Maison Schiaparelli gives birth to today has been a rich adventure. Please do not be surprised, in turn, to see yourself drawn as oddly constructed couture mannequins, some sort of Adam and Eve born from a naughty smile, with hips looking like lips and a heart-shaped bust. We wanted you to appear inventive, dynamic, creative, dancers as much as mechanics. We connected your worlds - a surrealistic mystery - and embroidered them with enigmas, like a treasure hunt.
Go through the keyhole and have a look at:
• the couture “petites mains” and the alive thread;
• the magical light switch;
• the Shocking pink bondage;
• the thimble playing with a metronome;
• the moon becoming a sun;
• the undulating heart crossed by a pin-arrow;
• 21 place Vendôme in the cosmos;
• the S of Schiap’ where you both form flying trapeze artists;
• and so many more secrets.
The film is for us like a kiss “à la Schiap’”. It snaps like her name that we whole-heartedly applaud. It echoes the soundtrack that is like an impulse: minimal, precise, neat like a ray of light, then round and enveloping like a starry sky.
This kiss is your and our key to enter the very first “Story” of Schiaparelli ready-to-wear.
