The newest member of the Bird-of-Paradise family is the Vogelkop Superb Bird-of-Paradise, which turns out to be distinct from its cousin, the more familiar Greater Superb. The blue spots are not his eyes (which are black and barely visible), but are fake eye-spots and part of his dazzling display to females. When he opens his mouth, it’s bright yellow inside – just to add more flash!
