Directors Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin (the team behind Meru) are in Telluride with Free Solo. The documentary features free climber Alex Honnold, who at 31 became the only person to ever scale El Capitan—a formidable rock wall rising up 3,000 feet out of the Yosemite Valley—without ropes. Honnold’s partner, Sanni McCandless, at right, also appears in the film.
