The Jizoji temple in Ogano, northwest of Tokyo, enshrines some 15,000 jizo stone statues dedicated for the souls of those who died at a young age, including miscarried and aborted babies. Hundreds of the temple's followers and those who have donated the stone statues gather for the Obon prayer on August 13, one of the days the souls of the dead are believed to return to the world under the Buddhist teaching. #temple #japan #buddhist
