In 1902, Shiseido's founder Arinobu Fukuhara opened a soda fountain and started making and selling Japan’s first soda water along with ice cream, which was a rare commodity at that time. Arinobu had a passion for authenticity, so directly imported the manufacturing equipment, glasses, straws, spoons and syrup from the US, where he got his inspiration from. His unwavering standards led to the popularity of SHISEIDO PARLOUR, which continues on today. These images are of the soda water production machine replica that we currently have on display in our Shiseido Corporate Museum in Kakegawa, the actual soda fountain in the Shiseido Pharmacy in 1902 and newspaper ad we published in 1903, as well as the ice cream soda we offer at SHISEIDO PARLOUR in the present day.
