We say this lake of ours is healing.
We arrived this year, some 2500 miles away from the arid heat and 100 hour work weeks. Weeks - months - of nothing but work and stress-interrupted sleep.
The sun was nearly down, and we left the bags in the truck, and hurried down to the dock to take it all in.
And then we couldn’t wait.
The three of us stripped down and jumped in, letting out shrieks of joy. The water was like cold silk washing away the dust, invigorating our weary bones, and hydrating our cracked skin.
I dipped in, again and again, for two weeks. I would lay on the dock in the old unraveling lounger that was once Ellen’s grandmother’s, and let the water droplets dry in the sun so I could then jump in all over again to feel the feeling in entirety.
I took a shower a few mornings ago, while parked in a Cracker Barrel parking lot, with water from our fresh tank. With sadness, I washed the last of the lake from my skin and hair.
The last of the Magic cold silk.
I don’t feel as healed as I needed to be.
Somehow, two weeks of true rest and stillness and healing a year just isn’t enough, no matter where it takes place.
I just wanted to hold on a little longer, to stay inside the Magic.
