NEW acquisitions to the #MAAScollection – these two LEGO sets celebrate women in #STEM fields. The first, “Women of @NASA” features #MaeJemison, #SallyRide, #MargaretHamilton, and #NancyGraceRoman. These women all battled against the belief, held by many in the 20th Century, that women should not want to be scientists, and helped to change entrenched attitudes at #NASA and beyond.
The second set, “Research Institute” features women in the roles of #astronomer, #chemist and #palaeontologist. Both sets were limited editions and the result of the #LEGO Ideas initiative, which crowdsourced ideas from fans worldwide.
