Last day with the Band ... From the table read to what will be our last curtain call together, this has been an experience nothing short of profound; eight shows a week with my eight dear boys, filling the up the Booth Theatre with laughter, tears, and the inexplicable power of pride, solidarity, and strength in whatever statement was made. I love you each, have looked up to you with profound respect, and am so proud to have done this alongside you. Thanks to Joe Mantello, our teacher and guide, and to @mrrpmurphy for your audacious vision and support, and to Mart Crowley for taking so much rage and turning it into something so beautiful. Thank you to the many fans from all over the world who came to sit at the window of this little birthday party and share in the joys, shames, and sorrows of these men. We don’t always get to see the ordinary ordinary silliness and private suffering shared between gay men. 1968 feels at once faraway and all too near again - I hope in some small way that stories like The Boys in the Band remind us of the human cost of hate, and help galvanize the heart for whenever Love might sound the call for battle. Fellas, let’s bring the house down ❤️
