フィラデルフィア美術館のインスタグラム(philamuseum) - 8月8日 09時42分

This past year Nicole Passerotti was awarded a Samuel H. Kress Conservation Fellowship to examine our collection of 190 wax miniatures. This “Basket of Flowers” from 19th century England is a wonderful example of how the malleability of wax was utilized to create small works of art.
Before beginning treatment of this artwork, an X-radiograph of this delicate miniature was taken in order to understand how it was made. The X-ray revealed an armature composed of metal wires wrapped in string that was then covered with wax. With this information, Nicole was able to reconstruct and stabilize petals and leaves that had been damaged over the years. Scroll through to see how this “Basket of Flowers” looked before, during, and after treatment, and visit gallery 296 to see it in person.
