People crowd La Concha beach in northern Spain as a heatwave threatened to raise temperatures to record levels. Large areas of Portugal were also on red alert for temperatures as high as 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit) over the weekend. On Friday, the Spanish Ministry of Health confirmed three deaths due to the hot weather that week. The heat wave coincides with peak vacation season in Europe.
