The genocide that happened in Rwanda 24 years ago is truly one of the most horrific events in human history. In this particular church 10,000 men, women & children were slaughtered over a 2 day period. They had barricaded themselves in with the thought of being protected & safe. There was nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. Outside there is a mass grave that holds 45,000. These pictures are of me standing amongst their clothing... the bullet holes are still in the walls & the ceiling, their belongings are in boxes on the floor. What, to me, is so incredible about Rwanda & her people is the amount of forgiveness it has taken for the people to come together & begin to heal & then grow TOGETHER as a nation. Can you imagine one day your neighbor is at your house, eating dinner with your family & the next day they are killing your children? Your wife, your husband? Your brothers & sisters & parents? How does one even BEGIN to FORGIVE? In 3 months, 1 million Rwandan people were killed. Families were completely wiped out. Erased forever. Some families had one remaining member that survived... a man that lost his parents, a woman that lost her husband & children, a child that has grown up alone because his/her siblings & parents were killed. It is those people that I am in complete awe of. I am in awe of how they have MADE THE CHOICE TO FORGIVE & move forward for the sake of their own dignity, integrity & for the sake of their country... We could all learn a lot from the people of this beautiful country called Rwanda. @worldrelief @kanakanate #wereallinthistogether
