Nature moves in its mysterious and beautiful ways at Yosemite (yo-sem-it-ee) National Park, one of America’s most picturesque parks and a UNESCO World Heritage site, where four million visitors find their adventure each year. The Half Dome, pictured here, is a can’t-miss hike for those who like a strenuous trek — but you can only go if the cables are up, usually late May to mid-October. It’s best to skip stormy days, as rain will make the granite dangerously slick, and you probably don’t want to be up there if thunder and lightning hits.
