Mass protests in London against President Trump’s visit to the United Kingdom kicked off in dramatic fashion on July 13, as Trump walked back a series of explosive comments about Britain’s leaders to a tabloid newspaper, published a day earlier. In a joint news conference with Prime Minister Theresa May, the president attempted to spin his #brexit remarks and dismissed the interview as “fake news,” despite the fact that The Sun released an audio recording. As the pair spoke at May’s Buckinghamshire estate, protesters gathered in London; as many as 200,000 people were expected to attend the demonstration, while dozens of similar events were planned elsewhere.
