By the time Swiss director Barbet Schroeder arrived to film his 1969 polemic ‘More’, a decade of this frenetic energy had taken hold. He invited Pink Floyd to record the film’s psychedelic rock soundtrack and the band quickly took a shine to lunching at the island’s oldest restaurant Comidas San Juan, where they rubbed shoulders with nonchalant farmers or payeses. The eatery’s free and easy atmosphere, where table-sharing is still mandatory today, illustrates how the town has outstretched its arms to foreigners for decades.
