Photo by @chamiltonjames / Charlie Hamilton James. Words by @jenguyton -Mount Gorongosa, where the people in this photo live, is an island of rainforest in the surrounding savanna. The rainforest, which generates much of the water that flows through the Gorongosa National Park and which contains many unique plants and animals, is disappearing rapidly as people clear it for subsistence farms. The Gorongosa Coffee Project aims to give people like this an alternative livelihood: farming shade-grown coffee. This coffee can be grown in reforestation areas, allowing the project to regrow the rainforest while supporting human communities. These farmers are invited to join the project and can choose to or not. Rosario's family, shown here, is not yet part of the project, but Rosario said he would like to grow coffee someday.
