Today is National #ArmedForcesDay – As Sovereign, The Queen is Head of the Armed Forces & has a long and close relationship with them - both the UK and in the Commonwealth.
In 1945 Her Majesty, then Princess Elizabeth, joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service and became the first female member of The Royal Family to join the Armed Services as a full-time active member.

The Queen, along with members of The Royal Family, maintains a close connection with the Armed Forces, supporting them in a number of ways. The Princess Royal is a long-standing support of the Armed Forces and has many honorary military appointments in the UK and around the Commonwealth, and today is attending events as part of National #ArmedForcesDay
