Ever wondered what your favorite paintings look like up close? Working with museums around the world, @googleartsculture uses its custom-built Art Camera system to capture the surprising details of artwork with ultra high-resolution images. To make sure the focus is right on each brush stroke, it’s equipped with a laser and a sonar that—much like a bat—uses high frequency sound to measure the distance of the artwork. Once each detail is captured, its software takes thousands of close-up shots and then stitch the pieces together into one single image for people to explore and enhance. #NationalCameraDay
