As a child, Veronica DeGuenther worked on cars with her father, fascinated to learn what makes the wheels go around. When she got her license, her parents gave her a broken-down 1959 Ford Anglia, made in England. "You know how to fix it," her father told her. She still has scratches on her high school ring from tearing down the engine.⠀

Today, the 69-year-old medical malpractice insurance saleswoman from Tampa, Fla., drives a 1986 Citroën 2CV, or Deux Chevaux. In 2007, she told a friend who lives in Europe that she was looking for a ride she could feature at car shows and just have fun in. He emailed her pictures of the Citroën, a "Dolly" special-edition model that came with vibrant two-tone paint, and Ms. DeGuenther fell in love with it instantly. ⠀

First built in 1948, Deux Chevaux means "two horses," referring to a horsepower taxation classification. In Europe, the car is an icon. Millions were manufactured there over 42 years, but it is a rare sight in the U.S.⠀

Ms. DeGuenther has brought her 2CV to car shows in Florida, Kentucky, North Carolina, New Jersey and New York. The morning of a show, she picks up fresh baguettes from a grocery store so her car smells like a French bakery, then hands them out to new friends.⠀
